About Humbug Mountain State Park

Humbug Mountain State Park

Humbug Mountain State Park, located on the southern coast of Oregon, is the site of the towering Humbug Mountain. Rising over 1,700 feet, this mountain creates a dramatic contrast with the Pacific Ocean and offers a unique environment due to its south-facing slope, resulting in a warmer microclimate. The park encompasses part of the historical Oregon coastline, where the dense, old-growth forest features Douglas fir, spruce, and a variety of understory plants. Wildlife is abundant, with sightings of black-tailed deer and a variety of bird species common. Trails range from coastal paths to intense climbs up Humbug Mountain, drawing hikers and nature photographers alike. Fishing in Brush Creek and beachcombing on the sandy shores are popular activities, while the past's echoes can be seen in the park's history, which includes Native American use and mid-19th-century gold mining. The park is particularly attractive to campers, offering a camping ground sheltered from coastal winds.
